Traffic

In Finland we are taught to respect people’s  right to do something unpredictable.
You can call it a mentality for tolerances
We leave space for something unexpected to happen

I have noticed that this mentality is best represented in traffic
Finns leave space for others and try to be as predictable as possible so others don’t have to worry.
This has evolved to a traffic culture that is extremely predictable and respectful towards others

For example in NZ the car behind you drives very close to you and might even keep their high beams in in the dark.

In Bali the consept of safe space around vehicles doesn’t seem to exist at all.
Buses scooters and cars occypy the same spaces with only millimeters to spare and lanes seem to be just a utopistic idea some traffic planner had yesteryear
In Kosovo 2014 I came across this  mentality that “I can do this, and others will adapt” as it caused some close calls and my local friend had such fast reflexes to avoid accidents. This caused me to start looking at the driving culture in a different light.

When you’re driving outside of scandinavia you need to focus so much more on what happens around you.
Then again it’s less likely to hit a Moose or a deer outside Finland, however you just might have crash with your fellow road user.

I guess its just that in different cultures you need to pay extra attention to different situations.

Whats the craziest close call youve had in traffic?
