362 days without a computer

As you might remeber, 16.9.2019 was a bad day for us in New Zealand. We had parked in a suburb next to a shop, went in to buy some snacks, and when we came back out, our van was broken into. You can read our initial reaction to that dreadful day here.

A few days later we got back many things that wasn’t of value to the thieves, like notebooks, clothes etc, but naturally electronics and jewelry were gone. We still had our mobile phones, and Petri’s computer was stored in a different place. So for the last year we’ve made do with his computer. Especially as neither of us are fulltime students, it has worked out ok, as neither of us needs it for daily usage.

My new computer!

But I do have some plans for this autumn and winter, that would make it all a lot easier to have my own computer. So finally, it has made sense to invest in my own. And yesterday it arrived! I had to compromise a bit on the size and weight, to get a more affordable price, but I will make do with it.

So yesterday and today has been a lot of trying to remember, what did I use to have on my computer, what programs do I need (Adobe, WordPress, Zoom, Spotify to name a few), what haven’t I had that I want this time around (photo editing program, haven’t settled on a specific one yet, got any tips for a beginner?), and so on. So quite a bit of setups and installations.

In today’s world, a lot is possible to manage in either a phone or tablet, but especially writing I find so much easier on a computer. Would you, or do you, manage to live without a computer? Or what makes a computer a must in your life?

Cheers,
Petra
