We have been discussing language of the blog, off and on. The problem is that we, our family and friends, have different native languages.

Petri is a native Finnish speaker. I am a native Swedish speaker. Through our studies and voluntary work, we have friends from all over, and with whom we mostly communicate in English.

To make things more complicated, if we wrote in either of our native languages, the other person couldn’t be writing as much, as we are a bit limited in our knowledge of the other persons first language. Writing it in Finnish would exclude some of my friends and family to be able to take part of the content, just as the other way around would be true too. Therefore we believe we include more people with writing in English. But, it is also true that this is excluding a few of our family and friends who aren’t able to communicate in English. And we are sorry about this.

So in the end, we choose to write this in English. We communicate with each other in English. Majority of our friends and family can get through a blog post in English. And we reach more people with writing in English.

However, as we are Finnish citizens travelling, there might be cases where the information we are writing only apply for Finland, or only a few nations, and then it can seem redundant to have it in English. Therefore there will be some posts that are in Finnish and some in Swedish. Especially with Working Holiday Visa things for Finland, people looking for this information will most likely search for information in Finnish or Swedish, and therefore we also want this information available to them. We would have appreciated that in the past, and we hope that others can appreciate our efforts.
